What are the Laws concerning a Business being closed to accept payments during a grace period?
This is a village Utility Service. You are currently paid in Full except for the month being billed. The monthly payment is due on 26 of september and there are 5 days grace period before a late charge is added with the last Two days of grace period being on Saturday and sunday when they are closed. You Make the payment on Monday they give you a receipt marked paid then send a bill for the full amount plus late charge and a shutoff notice. Is this proper? Is the bill paid in full because they acepted payment? I am qustioning about the business being closed during grace period. I have a receipt that says paid.
I called them they said to bad Pay the late fee or get Shut Off why didnt they ask when I paid.
Sounds to me Like you were late, and Used up Your grace period... you should pay the late fee and Not make a Big Deal Out of it, since even paying within the grace period is paying late... nothing in the law forces them to Extend the grace period for weekends... the grace period was 5 days not 5 business days.
