I was wondering if someone could help me, if you hire a Contractor to renovate a Building, who is responsible for paying the Sub-contractors? the contractor or the Owner who hired the contractor? on Top of that is there Any legel Way that the owner Can be Held accountible to the sub-contractors instead of the General contractor? please help!!
If the contractor hires subcontractors, he is responsible for their payment. If you go Out and hire subcontractors on Your Own, you are legally responsible for payment. If the contractor fails to Pay the subcontractor, the subcontractor can put a Mechanics lien on your property to insure that they will receive payment. Make sure you have a written contract with the contractor outlining every detail, and Never, never pay Off the contractor until Work is completed and you are satisfied with the Quality of work.
