Does IRS needs to be informed of a Change in the type Business carried Out by an s-corp?
I currently have a Software business (s-corp). I would Like to Use my business for trading and investment management (apply for trader status) in addition to software consulting.
If Your principle business activity will still be software consulting then keep the business Code the same.
However, if Stock trading is going to be a Big Part of your business in addition to software consulting, then I would consider creating another entity to Shield the software consulting business From the stock trading and Vise verse.
I would consult a CPA or attorney before you proceed.
