Why is a geodesic dome Only Self supporting, and unable to support an Interior of floors and walls?
I have read that support is required for floors, walls,etc. Is Not the dome extremely Strong? It has issues with a Shallow Top Roof Angle, but if a peak was Installed there would be no problem except it needing Extra support!
Transfer of Loads. A dome distributes the Load to All elements that compose it, and depends on this to retain its integrity, rather than load Bearing walls and trusses found in traditional structures. That's what makes it "self supporting". Walls and floors would pull Down the dome, they need to have their Own support.
