Why do the Steelers always fall appart during the 4th Quarter?
The Pittsburgh Steelers always seem to Come Out Perfect and Strong during the first quarter, but always fall appart during the 4th quarter. Please explain why this is. Is it because of Palamalo?
In a word: Yes, it is because of Troy Polamalu; the defense needs to Learn that it Can play AN ENTIRE GAME without him.
But they are so Used to him "having their backs," so to speak, in the 4th quarter that they sometimes forget that he's Not there.
On the Other Hand: While I admit that they certainly choked against the Bears (but that was as much because of Jeff Reed as it was the defense), you have to at least give SOME credit to the offenses of the Bengals and the Chargers - not to mention a freak play (punt fumble - in which there was some question as to whether Stefan Logan were really Down or not) in the latter game.
Yes, the defense lapsed, but the Steelers also lost to the Bengals because the Bengals - a division rival - wanted it More. And let's not forget that Carson Palmer knows How to get things done, too.
As for the Chargers? Well, Never winning a Regular season game in Pittsburgh was certainly more than enough motivation for them, too.
The reality there is: Had the Steelers been even One touchdown Less strong in the first Half, their 4th-quarter meltdown might have lost them that one, too.
