How do you replace heavy lightfittings that are Not below joists?
Light Fittings in the Kitchen of our new house are not below joists (the joists are between 13 and 15 Inches apart and the existing fittings are 2-5 inches From joists). The light fittings we want to Fit are heavy. The Ceiling is painted Plasterboard. What is the easiest Way to do it?
In order to Fix this problem you need to remove the Old box first, and you need to have Access to the space above Your kitchen. If you have an Attic, you Can remove the old box and you can Use either a 2x4 screwed horizontally across the joists, then add a box to that, or use a Bracket designed for a ceiling Fan.
If you don't have access above the kitchen you have 2 options, remove Part of the ceiling or get some lighter Light Fixtures. Sorry, but that's it.
