How drastic would the difference between the visible effects of these Two laser pointers?
They are the same laser Pointer, but One operates at a Power of 30 mW and the Other at a power output of 80 mW. Would the effects of exposing (let's just say) a Wooden Surface be Very different for the lasers given the exposure occurs Over the same amount of Time? (i.e. is the 80 mW laser much More Powerful than the 30 mW laser)
I do have several Green lasers. The strongest is 80mW and the weakest is 5mW. I have compared them in Many different situations and both of them are the same when it comes to burst balloons or lit a match or Make holes through Black Plastic Bags: neither Can. 80mW is Not powerful enough to do this although some people in lasers forums insist they have lit matches and Made holes through plastic bags with 75mW green lasers. If they did, then it happened Under very Special circumstances as it is not Easy: for example a very steady 80mW laser on a Tripod and switched on for few minutes.
The Main difference between these two lasers can be better described as follows. I can Use the 5mW as a pointer for presentations but I can't use the 80mW as the spot in the Screen is far too Bright for people to look at. They have in fact complained to me several times for using this Strong laser. It is also very very distracting seeing such a bright spot. 80mW laser Beam bounces From almost Any surface and it is dangerous for people in the conference Room or people staring at it. Now, a 30mW green laser will definitely leave a bright spot on a screen that although it is not as uncomfortable to see as the 80mW, I'm sure it is more than enough as a pointer. You don't need a 30mW pointer. As I said, 5mW is enough for this Purpose.
When I Point 80mW laser to the Night Sky (this is another reason why I bought it, as I use it to point at stars during astronomy shows) people gathering around me can easily see the beam through the sky from within a Circle 3-4 meters from where I am. With the 5mW laser you might need to be much Closer to the laser in order to see the beam. Also, 5mW laser will need much more Dust in the Air (particles) to disperse the beam and to make it visible to Your Eye whereas the 80mW will be still visible even in Cleaner skies. The same think applies to Water. The beam of 80mW laser is much more visible than the beam of 5mW.
Another similarity, you’ll have fun with either laser.
