How to Paint a Table From Light wood to Dark wood Color?
I have coffee and dinning tables I want to repaint. They are both in Natural light wood. I want them to be dark wood color. They are varnished with a glossy Finish. I want to paint them that Way, that the wood would look Like natural dark wood, Not like a Heavy painted Wall. I need a List of things needed to do this Job. Thanks a Lot!
Your not going to be able to accomplish that look w/ paint. Paint won't Stick to varnish at All. For One the glossy finish is varnish, & you need to Use a solvent to get all of that Off before you Start. Once you've accomplished that, Lightly Sand the table & legs. You'll need Stain to accomplish the look you want. There are a lot of different shades.Once you find the color you want, Brush on the stain, then wipe it off. You Can Only do so much at a Time. But if you really want to Make your tables look nice, this is the steps you will have to Take.
You can try another method, but I don't guarantee the outcome. You could just sand the varnish & then try the paint, but to Tell you the truth, paint will look tacky.
